This design focuses on 3 sites in Berlin-Brandenburg: Westkreuz, Olympiastadion and Falkensee. Even though they are very different, they all share being an urban void, shaped by the presence of a dominant physical infrastructure and of a megastructure.
The scenario visualizes these sites 2040, in a world imagined as being highly divided and unequal, digitalized and automatized.
Within that frame Westkreuz is imagined as a new transport node for Berlin with the implementation of a Hyperloop. As the existing infrastructures form a barrier to pedestrians and cyclists, the new development shall be used as an opportunity to connect the surrounding neighbourhoods over the Westkreuz area and enable the crossing of pedestrians and cyclists.
The new design for the Olympic stadium and park wants to explore new roles for the disconnected green areas and the stadium. The goal is to connect them with existing infrastructures and make them a part of daily life. New entertainment and leisure activities should be added within the area of the Olympic park.
Falkensee is expected to grow further in the future. At the same time, the increase of digitalisation and shift towards knowledge-based jobs will lead to further job losses in logistics and manufacturing, leaving Falkensee with even fewer job opportunities. The loss of jobs will also result in a change in leisure activities, as there is more free time to be spent.
A more detailed design was created for Falkensee, showing how different uses for leisure can be implemented in existing and new structures.
