B96

The route on B96 is focusing on three very different sites, proposing a new development for 2040: Briese at the border of Berlin, Märkisches Viertel and the BSR Recycling Center Roedernallee is such a place. The road B96 is an old route connecting many independent villages and not anymore one of the largest highways leading out of Berlin. But it is central to the housing developments in this area, which are characterised by sprawl and
a bad public transport connection.

The scenario expected for berlin and B96 is new mobility models, which will decrease car traffic. The opportunity to reduce cars, parking space and
gas station infrastructure, opens up new spaces for urban usage, but also needs to be accompanied by a broader mobility approach and new spatial concepts.

1. MARKET HALL ZERO

The BSR Recycling Center Roedernallee is thought to be transformed into a market hall following a zero-waste strategy. In 2040 the vision of a Markethall complex with permanent building and exhibition space, green spaces, a workshop area and constant recycling station are expected.

2. MÄRKISCHES VIERTEL

The following strategy seeks to assess the future potential usage of the parking spaces adjacent to the MV high-rises. The proposed design should be
an intervention in the urban space, which takes into account the temporal context and spatiality of the immediate surroundings, to address and meet the needs of the inhabitants.

3. BRIESE

‚By bike across land and sea‘ – this is the motto of the transnational Berlin-Copenhagen-Bikeway, connecting both Capitals. Starting in Berlin and passing through Briesetal, connecting Birkenwerder and Briese, the bikeway can be
understood as a chance for local tourism in the Berlin-Brandenburg area.
